The owners of this property – with stunning, panoramic coastal views of St Ives, commissioned Camellia in early 2015 to project manage and design the interior of their property. Intended as a business investment to be let out throughout the year, it was vital that any design was fit for purpose, with furniture and finishes tough enough to withstand high levels of use, but that also reflected the property’s beautiful coastal location and the couple’s passion for bold colours.
As a new build the property was already laid-out over 3 storeys; with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, one cloakroom and an open plan kitchen/dining space. There was plenty of space to utilise and bring to life in the design. The internal scheme was bold, taking inspiration from the Cornish coastline by picking up bright blues with accents of oranges throughout. Camellia also added a sense of fun to the staircase – choosing a wall covering to play on an underwater theme to make the most of this darker area of the property.
As with any holiday rental home, storage was also a vital element and requirement. As such, Camellia designed and installed a range of bespoke furniture for hanging or storing items away throughout the property. One of the best and most challenging features was the large window in the master bedroom on the top floor. With stunning views overlooking St Ives’ harbour, Camellia didn’t want to detract from the impact of this architecturally impressive window and its views. The team therefore installed beautiful, bespoke black-out pleated blinds as a practical solution to accommodate the stunning St Ives light pouring in the first thing in the morning.
Logistically, the staircase of the property proved challenging for Camellia. The narrow space meant it was difficult to get furniture up to the top storey and the team had to manage deliveries effectively to resolve this. Camellia project managed the entire process of filling this property with beautiful furniture and decorating it ready for it to be let for the holiday season.
The refurbishment was completed on time, prior to the start of the Easter holidays – allowing the owners to make the most of the start of the rental season in St Ives.
