This duplex apartment dates back decades and has front row seats overlooking Porthmeaor Beach in St Ives. The owners of this property who we have previously completed projects for were looking for a refurbishment to the bathroom and open plan living and kitchen area. We were to utilise the furniture they already had and build in everything else around it. Timescales were critical as the work was to be completed out of season ready for guests that had booked for 2016.
We were appointed by the clients have previously worked with us and understood the value in using our service. We removed all of the hassle from them and we project managed from start to finish leaving the client to carry on with their lives in Surrey. At Camellia we have strong relationships with tradesmen here in Cornwall, which in turn helped us achieve the tight time scale. Access to the property was tight therefore logistically our team had to project manage to ensure residents were not disrupted by the work and everybody was happy.
We replaced the kitchen and reconfigured the layout so it was more user friendly and maximised the space. The flooring was replaced for a light oak and the carpets were all replaced with a durable alternative. Our brief was that the design wasn’t to take away from the view, therefore we kept the look minimalistic. The sofas and furniture were to be retained, so we updated these with some new bespoke cushions to tie everything together.
The apartment is popular with surfers so we created an area in the bathroom with a bespoke wetsuit rail and built a channel into the tiled surface so in the winter months wetsuits can dry in the bathroom and the water can drain away. In turn creating less wear and tear for the client with wetsuits no longer needing to be hung around the apartment.
We successfully completed the project ready for 2016’s bookings. The client was thrilled with the new look and practical areas of the design. In turn the property has now been upgraded to a higher band therefore giving the client a higher weekly rate and an increase in revenue.
